8 subconscious mind exercises

The human mind is an intricate labyrinth. Hiding within its depths is immense potential waiting to be harnessed. While conscious thoughts and rationality dominate our daily lives, there exists a realm beyond our immediate awareness—the subconscious mind.

In my teachings, I have endeavored to guide my students toward a deeper understanding of this hidden realm, unveiling the vast reservoirs of creativity, intuition, and self-realization that lie within.

The subconscious mind is a powerful force that shapes our thoughts, beliefs, and actions. It acts as a reservoir of ingrained patterns and conditioning, often dictating our responses to various life situations.

Without further ado, here are eight exercises to reprogram your subconscious mind and unlock its potential.

1. Practice Awareness and Self-Observation

Our first subconscious mind exercise is about cultivating awareness and self-observation.

Self-awareness enables us to recognize the beliefs and attitudes that may be holding us back. This is the first step in taking control of the subconscious mind.

Pay close attention to your thoughts, emotions, and behavior. By doing so, you will start to notice your subconscious patterns—those that serve you and those that need to change.

I always remind my students that they need to hold themselves accountable for the thoughts they think.

In my 6-week Mind Power training, I teach students about the 6 Laws of the Mind. Specifically, the Law of Insertion. This law says that you have the power and the ability to insert whatever thought you want into your mind.

Why is this important?

Well, when you begin observing what thoughts you are thinking without even paying attention to them, you will begin to understand the immense power you hold when you begin to mindfully choose what thoughts you think.

2. Journal and Reflect

In my online training programs, I ask my students to dedicate time each day to writing down their thoughts and observations.

Through writing, you access thoughts, feelings, and dreams that often elude conscious awareness. You discover buried emotions, limiting beliefs, and unexplored aspirations.

This process of self-exploration serves as a catalyst for personal growth. It unravels the intricate tapestry of the mind. It gives you a clearer understanding of your true self.

Writing your thoughts and observations makes you accountable for the limiting beliefs and behaviours you hold in your subconscious mind. It also allows you to release them and replace them with alternatives that will help you to re-create your reality.

3. Reframe Your Thoughts with Affirmations

Once you have identified your limiting beliefs, you can start reframing them, ie., replacing negative thoughts and self-talk with positive and empowering affirmations.

To begin, create affirmations that align with your goals. To write effective affirmations, make sure your affirmations:

  1. Focus on the positive (“I attract wealth” > “I am not broke”)
  2. Use the present tense (“I am successful” > “I will succeed”)
  3. Are specific (“I’ve lost 10 pounds” > “I am healthy”)
  4. Are concise
  5. Resonate with you—they need to evoke a deep sense of belief and possibility when you say them

Then, to overwrite the old programming and create new neural pathways in your subconscious mind, repeat them for at least 5 minutes, every day.

4. Visualize

You can bypass the constraints of rational thought and delve into the subconscious realm just by using your imagination. This exercise is known as visualization.

Visualizations are simple. You practice creating vivid mental images of the things you want in your mind. You see yourself achieving your goals and experiencing the outcomes you want to manifest.

When you visualize your aspirations and goals with clarity, you connect with your subconscious mind on a profound level. It triggers a cascade of neural and emotional responses that reinforce your commitment to realizing your dreams.

You can—and should—enhance your visualizations by attaching strong emotions to them.

Let’s say you want to find a new job with a higher salary.

You’ll begin visualizing how you’ll receive the job offer: you’re shaking your new boss’s hand and then signing the employment agreement.

As you’re playing the scene in your head, pay particular attention to how you feel: proud, happy, excited, nervous, unstoppable, etc. Tap into those emotions and link them to the mental images you’re creating in your mind.

The subconscious can’t tell the difference between what’s real and what isn’t. We can use that to our advantage. The more we practice our visualizations, the closer we get to our subconscious accepting these images as our new reality.

5. Practice Meditation and Mindfulness

Meditation and mindfulness are essential to awakening the potential of the subconscious mind. When you quiet outside distractions and turn inward, you enter a heightened state of awareness and unlock access to your innate wisdom.

Practice regular meditation and contemplation and you will soon be able to watch your thoughts, emotions, and sensations without judgment or attachment.

Once you learn to detach yourself from your thoughts, you will unravel the deeper layers of your subconscious. You will discover patterns and uncover insights that pave the way for personal transformation.

6. Analyze and Interpret Your Dreams

The enigmatic world of dreams offers another gateway to the subconscious mind. It’s laden with rich symbolism and untapped wisdom.

As part of the Mind Power training, my students have to practice dream analysis. I guide and encourage them to record and reflect upon their dreams. It’s an exercise I encourage you to try as well.

Dreams provide valuable insights into one’s fears, desires, and unresolved conflicts. If you can decipher their symbolic language, you will develop great self-awareness. You can then use this knowledge in your waking life to promote personal growth and self-actualization.

7. Release Negative Emotions

Emotions play a significant role in our subconscious programming.

Unresolved emotional baggage can create blocks and resistance to change. So it is crucial to engage in emotional release and healing practices.

You can do this through journaling, therapy, energy work, or contemplation and meditation.

Emotional healing creates a fertile ground for positive and empowering subconscious reprogramming. By consciously acknowledging and releasing stored emotions, you clear the path for new beliefs.

8. Be Consistent

Repetition is paramount when training the subconscious mind. It is the key to solidifying new programming within the subconscious. It transforms conscious efforts into automatic responses.

When you expose the mind to your desired thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors over and over, you reinforce new neural pathways (ie., subconscious patterns).

Exercise consistency and discipline. Incorporate daily rituals that reinforce positive subconscious programming and you will gradually reshape your mindset. Your actions will align with the outcomes you desire—without you having to think about it.
